A recent study by the National Science Foundation suggests that people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) experience a lot of pain when they get up, which can make them less likely to use stairs.

According to the study, people who suffer from TBI are more likely to have difficulty walking in the stairwell.

According the study’s abstract, a staircase is considered safe if it meets the following criteria: It has no moving parts (such as rails or treads) that can damage or destroy structural integrity;
