A “stone staircase” fell off a Wal-Mart parking lot in the U.S. this week, injuring at least eight people and leaving them with no escape, the company said.
The mishap occurred Tuesday morning near a Walmart in rural North Carolina.
The building was partially down and no one was injured.
Walmart spokesman Andrew Thomas told the Associated Press that “the company is in touch with the families of those who were injured and providing them with information on their recovery.
The company is offering free and full-time medical care and counseling to anyone who needs it.”
Wal-Marts nationwide are under new management in an attempt to address concerns over safety and improve the lives of its shoppers.
The new CEO is facing questions about safety after several fatal incidents in recent years, including one that killed a 16-year-old boy and injured two other people in California in April.
